Solution | Detection of Volatile Organic Compounds in Anhydrous Ethanol
Release Date :2025-03-24

The detection of volatile impurities in ethanol mainly adopts gas chromatography or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. At present, the detection of volatile impurities in ethanol is mainly based on the inspection method of "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" 2020 edition. The system applicability requirements, the separation degree between acetaldehyde peak and methanol peak should meet the requirements, that is, according to the gas chromatography determination method (general rule 0521), the separation degree between the chromatographic peak of the substance to be tested and the adjacent chromatographic peak should not be less than 1.5. According to the standard of "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" 2020 edition, this paper uses East-West Analysis GC-4100 gas chromatograph to establish a method for the determination of volatile impurities in ethanol. The separation degree of acetaldehyde and methanol in this method is R > 2, which fully meets the requirements of the Pharmacopoeia that the separation degree is greater than 1.5.
